[Agyeong Hit Product] Moan County Office's 'Hoesan Baengnyeonji' Rises as a Four-Season Tourist Destination

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Hoisan Baekryeonji, located in Illo-eup, Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do, is the largest natural white lotus habitat in Asia, listed in the Guinness Book in 2001. During the Japanese colonial period in 1933, two unnamed reservoirs were combined and used as a place to irrigate rice paddies. In 1955, Mr. Jeong Su-dong from a nearby village planted twelve white lotus roots, creating the current site.

Beopjeong Sunim also admired the scenery of Baekryeonji in his essay collection "The Forest Where Birds Have Left Is Silent," saying, "The world's best lotus pond is not well known," as it forms a spectacular view in summer. Around the outdoor water playground, the vast and beautiful lotus pond and the 12,054㎡ auto caravan and auto camping site, opened in 2016, are popular attractions.

Along with lotus flowers, visitors can enjoy a variety of flowers throughout the year: roses and marguerites in spring, zinnias and sanpachens in summer, chrysanthemums and pink muhly in autumn, and pansies and ornamental cabbages in winter. Additionally, with facilities such as an animal farm and children's playground, it is emerging as a four-season tourist destination. This year, the lotus flower festival, which was suspended due to COVID-19, is also scheduled to be held, drawing even more attention.
