Economic Sector Declares 'New Entrepreneurship Spirit'... Software Industry Pledges to Help Address Educational Opportunity Inequality

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] On the 24th, 74 companies, including five domestic groups and unicorn companies, declared the 'New Entrepreneurship Spirit.' The software industry, which participated in the declaration ceremony, plans to expand ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management, such as closing the education gap using software.

At the 'New Entrepreneurship Spirit Declaration Ceremony' held at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry building in Jung-gu, Seoul, Cho Junhee, CEO of Uracle, and Lee Hanju, CEO of Bespin Global, attended as representatives of the software industry. Cho and Lee serve as the president and vice president of the Korea Software Industry Association, respectively.

CEO Cho stated, "As a leading Korean software company, we will work to resolve the imbalance and gap in software education opportunities caused by the lack of public education for children." He added, "To this end, we will create separate programs with private educational institutions to support this effort and collaborate with other software companies to expand it."

The software industry participating in the New Entrepreneurship Spirit aims to contribute to social development by expanding ESG management based on the industry's capabilities as a mainstream economic sector.

Meanwhile, the declaration ceremony began with a corporate declaration presented by Choi Tae-won, chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, proposing new roles for companies in economics, ethics, and environmental friendliness. Chairman Choi, who led this declaration ceremony, stated, "Companies declare and practice a 'new entrepreneurship spirit' that values all stakeholders surrounding the company?including customers, organizational members, shareholders, partner companies, and local communities?and fosters mutual growth beyond the past role of creating jobs and profits through growth."

The core of the corporate declaration announced that day includes not only economic values such as financial performance but also social values such as ▲job creation ▲consumer protection ▲corporate culture development ▲environmentally friendly management ▲co-prosperity with local communities. The declaration was signed by 76 business leaders, including major conglomerates such as Samsung Electronics and Hyundai Motor Company, venture companies like Woowa Brothers (Baedal Minjok) and Toss, financial institutions such as Mirae Asset Securities and Industrial Bank of Korea, and economic organizations including the Federation of Korean Industries, Korea International Trade Association, and Korea Federation of SMEs.

The business leaders also formed a separate implementation body called the 'New Entrepreneurship Spirit Council (ERT).' This is the Korean version of the U.S. Business Roundtable (BRT), a representative economic organization that declared in August 2019 that the purpose of a company is to provide value to all stakeholders. The plan is to expand the scope to include not only the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry's 180,000 member companies but also members of other economic organizations and startups.
