[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jonghwa] KCC is strengthening communication and cooperation with its clients by hosting a customized '2022 Design Trend-Pulse Seminar.' In particular, it has received positive responses by sharing design trends through various formats such as invitation-only seminars, on-site seminars, and online seminars suitable for non-face-to-face settings.


The Trend-Pulse seminar has been held since February by inviting key clients and stakeholders to the Design Center located in the Seocho-dong headquarters to tour the exhibition space, or by having KCC’s design experts visit clients directly.


Depending on the client’s situation, KCC also provided opportunities to experience its color design technology and trends through non-face-to-face online seminars, sharing related products as well. So far, about 1,100 clients and stakeholders have participated in the trend seminars, creating a platform for in-depth sharing of design information and discussions, which has been evaluated as establishing cooperative relationships that can generate synergy effects between design technology and products.


KCC selected 'Symbiosis' as this year’s main design theme. In a society undergoing massive changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR) have acted as new balancing tools that alleviate the constraints of reality for people. The design strategy presented aligns with the era requiring coexistence with nature and technology by transforming daily imbalances into balance and seeking a lifestyle suitable for the new normal era.


This year’s trend seminar proposes three themes in four parts: ▲CMF (Color, Material, Finishing) Home Appliances, ▲CMF Mobility, ▲Interior, and ▲Exterior. In the CMF Home Appliances part, colors and designs as emotional balancing devices are proposed with △Eclectic Cadence, △Neo Psychedelia, and △Eco Couture. In the CMF Mobility part, focusing on emotional communication between humans and mobility, colors and materials are suggested with △Love Harmony, △Fantasy Empires, and △Passionate Protagonist.


In the Interior part, attention is paid to the changed roles of commercial and residential spaces after the pandemic, introducing △Transitional Connect, △Emptiness Value, and △New Luxury. In the Exterior part, focusing on a bright future aimed for after the pandemic, color designs of △Highlight, △Right Light, and △Light the Color Up are proposed. The suggested colors are produced as color samples that can be practically applied and mass-produced, and are developed into customized consulting for clients in automotive, home appliances, architecture, and other fields.


The Trend-Pulse seminar forecasts product, interior, and exterior design trends centered on consumer lifestyles and needs, as well as industry and market trends, proposing various design solutions and delivering inspiration for product development. The colors and materials proposed in the seminar were developed through joint research by the design team and color development team based on the color database and know-how accumulated at the KCC Color Design Center. Clients can gain significant assistance in developing and researching product designs by considering design needs in their business fields through the seminar.


A KCC official stated, "Trend-Pulse is a one-on-one customized seminar with various industries such as home appliances, automobiles, construction and architecture, shipbuilding, and steel, proposing design solutions tailored to the client’s business field and market needs to form friendly and cooperative relationships." He added, "We will continue various projects so that KCC’s design capabilities, together with clients, can enhance the value of products and brands, increase sales, strengthen competitiveness, and achieve mutual growth with our clients."
