[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The Small Enterprise and Market Service (SEMAS) announced on the 24th that it will newly organize a 'Junior Board' to improve organizational culture and strengthen internal communication.
Last month, SEMAS recruited participants for the Junior Board through an open call to internal employees and selected 33 employees as members. The members consist of MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z) employees with less than 5 years of work experience and below grade 5. The board was established with the purpose of discovering creative ideas for institutional innovation through free discussions.
Now in its fourth year, the Junior Board was first introduced in 2019 as an official communication channel for the younger generation within the organization. Over the past three years, they have identified 36 improvement tasks related to organizational culture, working conditions, and support project procedures. In particular, 16 tasks, including the expansion of flexible working hours, have been reflected in the management of the organization.
Lee Ji-yeon, a junior board member and assistant manager of the Commercial District Development Office, said, "The appeal of the Junior Board is that it can actually be reflected in the management of the institution," adding, "I plan to actively discuss organizational culture or work methods that I hope to see improved."
The Junior Board will continue its activities until the end of the year and carry out various activities to foster a flexible organizational culture, such as 'reverse mentoring.' Reverse mentoring is a term combining 'mentoring,' which is an activity where a person with rich experience and knowledge guides and advises a specific person to develop skills and potential, with 'reverse,' meaning to turn upside down.
Jo Bong-hwan, Director of SEMAS, said, "The challenging voices of the Junior Board members will be the cornerstone for making the organization stronger," and added, "We expect them to boldly offer good opinions from a young perspective for the development of the institution."
