Samsung Electronics Opens CJ ENM's 'Virtual Production Stage' Decorated with 'The Wall'

A Samsung Electronics model is shooting content at the 'CJ ENM Virtual Production Stage' equipped with the Micro LED display 'The Wall'.

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jin-ho] Samsung Electronics announced on the 24th that the 'CJ ENM Virtual Production Stage,' equipped with the Micro LED display 'The Wall,' has officially opened.

The Virtual Production Stage is an advanced studio where the entire set is decorated with large LED screens, enabling various types of backgrounds to be displayed on the screen. It was established within the 'CJ ENM Studio Center' complex built by CJ ENM last year in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.

The Wall installed here realizes an ultra-high resolution of 32K horizontal by 4K vertical (30,720 x 4,320). This massive display, measuring 20 meters in diameter, 7 meters in height, and 22 meters diagonally, is designed to wrap the entire approximately 1,650㎡ studio in an oval shape, boasting an overwhelming scale.

Additionally, a high-definition LED signage covering about 404㎡ is installed on the ceiling, and a sliding LED screen with the same specifications as the ceiling is installed near the entrance, supporting an immersive filming environment with 360-degree video.

The Wall offers solutions optimized for virtual content production, including ▲studio production-specific frame rate support (23.976, 29.97, 59.94Hz, etc.) ▲frame synchronization to reduce screen tearing ▲easy remote management and color adjustment programs, enhancing the completeness of video content production.

The Wall can be installed in modular form, allowing various designs such as curved surfaces, ceilings, and walls according to the studio's size and environment. The application of special molding technology on the surface makes it advantageous for studio environments where set construction and dismantling are repeated, and external contaminants like dust are prevalent.

By utilizing The Wall to build a virtual studio, time and costs required for on-site location and graphic compositing can be drastically reduced compared to existing production systems. It also efficiently calculates the distance and perspective between the subject and the camera automatically and applies it to the display in real time.
