Garak Mall Library Operated by Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation Selected as 'Humanities on the Road' Project Library for 6 Consecutive Years... Various Lectures, Field Trips, and Experiential Learning on the Theme of 'Learning Food Culture through Humanities' Starting in June
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The Garak Mall Library, operated by the Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation (President Moon Young-pyo) within Garak Market, has been selected as a target library for the "Humanities on the Road" project for six consecutive years and will begin program operations starting in June.
The "Humanities on the Road" project is a public contest hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korean Library Association, providing opportunities for users to attend humanities lectures, explorations, and experiential activities through local libraries.
Since 2017, Garak Mall Library has been consistently selected as a project target by leveraging its expertise as a food culture-specialized library. This year, under the theme "Perception: Learning Food Culture through Humanities," it plans to present various programs including △ stories of food created by historical events ▲ foods appearing in fairy tales, novels, and essays ▲ food culture and environmental philosophy.
The program will begin with a lecture by Professor Joo Young-ha, an author and food humanities scholar known for books such as "A Hundred Years of Meals," "Gourmets of Joseon," and "Food Humanities," and will continue from June to September with a total of 14 sessions featuring various expert lectures, local explorations, and experiential learning.
The program will mainly be held at Garak Mall Library, with a combination of online lectures and related local visits. Participants for each session will be recruited on a first-come, first-served basis through the library’s website.
