"Have Contacted Multiple Times... Will Ensure Many People Attend the Event Honoring Former President Roh"
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, met with Kwon Yang-sook, the wife of former President Roh Moo-hyun, and stated, "We will ensure that there is no negligence in honoring former President Roh."
On the 23rd, after attending the 13th anniversary memorial service for the late former President Roh held in Bongha Village, Gimhae, Gyeongnam, Lee met with Mrs. Kwon for 20 minutes. Lee met with Mrs. Kwon along with former Prime Minister Jeong Sye-kyun, chairman of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation, Supreme Council member Jeong Mi-kyung, Party Leader’s Secretary Park Seong-min, chief spokespersons Kim Hyeong-dong and Heo Eun-ah, lawmaker Jeong Dong-man, and Party Leader’s Political Affairs Office Chief Kim Cheol-geun.
After meeting Mrs. Kwon, Lee told reporters, "When I visited her last year, I promised to visit regularly and greet her, and in fact, I have contacted her several times since then. I am relieved that her health seems to be as good as usual." Lee had also visited Mrs. Kwon with Supreme Council member Jeong Mi-kyung on June 25 last year after being elected party leader.
Furthermore, Lee said, "Above all, I told her that, like the recent May 18th Memorial Ceremony where many people participated, although fewer people could come this time due to the local elections, we will ensure that more people from our party can attend events commemorating former President Roh in the future." He added, "There have been heated debates related to former President Roh during the election process, but last year I promised that such incidents would not occur during the presidential election, and I have also committed to preventing them during the local elections."
Lee also explained that he spoke with Mrs. Kwon regarding President Yoon Suk-yeol’s remarks about former President Roh. Lee said, "Regarding President Yoon’s several positive comments about former President Roh, I got the impression that Mrs. Kwon viewed them favorably as well. I assured her that we will not be negligent in honoring former President Roh, including within the framework of future cooperation."
After meeting Mrs. Kwon, Lee and other People Power Party officials visited the former President Roh memorial hall, guided by former Prime Minister Jeong.
