[Gimhae=Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Lee Jae-myung, the General Election Committee Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 23rd at the memorial service for the 13th anniversary of former President Roh Moo-hyun's passing, "We will not forget the dream of a world where people live, a world without unfairness and privileges, and will continue to carry it forward."
After the memorial service held in Bongha Village, Gimhae, Gyeongnam, Lee told reporters, "I feel truly regretful and sorry for not being able to keep the promise I made to President Roh Moo-hyun," expressing his sentiments.
This is interpreted as an apology for his defeat in the recent presidential election, which prevented the launch of the 4th Democratic government succeeding the Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun administrations.
When asked by reporters about future election strategies with nine days remaining until the June 1 local elections, Lee said, "First, I briefly visited Honam in relation to the May 18 event. To commemorate former President Roh Moo-hyun from yesterday to today, we have come to support the Chungcheong and Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) areas," adding, "Now, we need to focus on the metropolitan area and the Gyeyang district in Incheon."
Regarding having lunch with former President Moon Jae-in in Bongha Village before the memorial service, he said, "We shared many words," but refrained from elaborating, stating, "There didn't seem to be any special political meaning worth disclosing."
