The hero of the fire, postal worker Lee Hyun-geun, was visiting his parents' home on the morning of the 8th, Parents' Day, when he heard shouts of "Fire!" along with black smoke at a restaurant located in Subuk-myeon, Damyang-gun. Using a fire extinguisher kept at his parents' home and others brought by bystanders, he took immediate action to extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading into a major blaze.

Local residents said, "If postal worker Lee Hyun-geun had not actively engaged in the initial firefighting, there could have been significant damage," and they visited the post office to express their gratitude and personally encourage him for his good deed.

Postal worker Lee Hyun-geun said, "I just did what anyone would have done in that situation," adding, "I am relieved that quick action prevented major damage."

Meanwhile, it was also revealed that a few years ago, while delivering in Geumseong-myeon, postal worker Lee Hyun-geun noticed no response at an elderly person's home. Knowing that the elderly person had a serious illness, he opened the door and found the person unconscious and collapsed. He called 119, and after the ambulance arrived and confirmed the elderly person's safety, he continued his delivery, spreading warmth through his actions.
