[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] NHK reported that U.S. President Joe Biden expressed support for Japan's bid to become a permanent member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council during a summit meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held on the 23rd.
According to the report, the two leaders agreed on the necessity of Security Council reform during the meeting, and President Biden expressed his support for Japan assuming a permanent seat when the reform is realized.
This was the first face-to-face summit between President Biden, who is on his first visit to Japan since taking office, and Prime Minister Kishida, who took office in October last year. The two leaders held a meeting for about 30 minutes from 11 a.m. with only interpreters present, followed by talks with key officials.
