Hapcheon-gun's Proactive Measures Against Drought During Rice Planting Season in May-June

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam Province, where the average rainfall is less than 53% of the normal level, is making every effort by preparing a comprehensive preemptive plan to ensure stable water supply during the farming season from May to June, the peak rice planting period, amid the ongoing drought.

Hapcheon-gun is promptly addressing issues such as river excavation, installation of water diversion facilities, and support for temporary water pumps to minimize inconvenience to residents, and plans to immediately allocate contingency funds if the budget is required.

In addition, the county is thoroughly managing facilities to quickly respond to problems such as pump station and well malfunctions in existing water supply facilities.

They have also maintained a cooperative relationship with the Korea Rural Community Corporation Hapcheon branch. Since February this year, due to concerns about crop damage caused by the winter drought, emergency water pump operation and reservoir discharge have been implemented to supply agricultural water, which residents have welcomed.

Acting Governor Lee Seon-gi stated, “We plan to proactively and aggressively implement drought countermeasures in preparation for the possibility that the drought may continue until June.”
