[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jeong Soon-gyun, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate for Gangnam District Mayor, announced on the 23rd that he has filed a complaint against Jo Seong-myeong, the People Power Party candidate for Gangnam District Mayor, with the Gangnam Election Commission and Suseo Police Station for violating the Public Official Election Act.
On the same day, Jeong released a statement saying, “On April 16, before the official campaign period, Jo held a preliminary candidate announcement event for Gangnam District Mayor at the outdoor performance venue near Yangjaecheon Yeongdong 3 Bridge, where he installed a large banner and gathered a crowd using a loudspeaker microphone.”
He claimed that according to Article 60-3 of the Public Official Election Act (Election Campaigning by Preliminary Candidates, etc.), preliminary candidates are prohibited from campaigning by any means other than those prescribed by law starting 180 days before the election day.
