[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Jeju Police Agency announced on the 23rd that it recently held a meeting to strengthen cooperation in the foreigner security network to prepare for the easing of COVID-19 quarantine measures and the resumption of visa-free entry to Jeju, as well as to address social discrimination against foreign residents.
The meeting was attended by a total of 11 people, including five representatives of the foreigner autonomous crime prevention squads operating at each police station and the head of the Foreign Affairs Division of Jeju Police Agency.
The Jeju Police Agency’s foreigner autonomous crime prevention squad consists of 57 members who assist police security duties such as joint patrols and campaigns in areas with high concentrations of foreigners in the province.
During the meeting, the foreigner autonomous crime prevention squad members visited a mobile evidence analysis bus and the 112 Security Comprehensive Situation Room, sharing Jeju Police’s security activities and current issues, while gathering various opinions on ways to revitalize community policing and planning to build a ‘Global Happiness Community’ with foreign residents.
A Jeju Police official stated, “With the government’s phased normalization of international flights and the arrival of foreign seasonal workers, the number of foreigners residing in the province is expected to increase.” He added, “We will further strengthen security cooperation to ensure that foreigners residing in Jeju do not become victims or perpetrators of crimes.”
