Candidate Jeong Wono Declares, "I Will Make Seongdong-gu the Best City to Live in Nationwide, Creating a Class-A Different Seongdong"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jung Won-oh, the Democratic Party candidate for Seongdong District Mayor, held his first major campaign rally at Wangsimni Station Plaza on the 21st, the first weekend after the official election campaign began, appealing for support from Seongdong residents.
For the elderly attendees at the rally, about 200 chairs were prepared at Wangsimni Station Plaza, but an unprecedented crowd of approximately 1,500 people (total attendance 1,500, police estimate about 1,000) gathered, creating a scene that confirmed the passionate support for candidate Jung Won-oh.
This was the largest rally ever held at Wangsimni Station Plaza since its opening, surpassing even the numbers at the last presidential candidate rally.
Candidate Jung said, “Four years ago, you elected me with the highest vote share in Seoul at 69.5%, and to repay that grace, I have worked tirelessly over the past four years. As a result, I have resolved all the long-standing issues of Seongdong residents, including the demolition of Sampyo Ready-Mix Concrete, the expansion of Jangteo-gil in front of Geumho Station, and the confirmation of the GTX-C line station at Wangsimni Station,” emphasizing, “A true worker is someone who quietly does what needs to be done without complaining about conditions or circumstances, and that is how I have worked.”
In fact, candidate Jung has solved major key projects that have been the top three long-standing issues in Seongdong for over 40 years, such as the demolition of Sampyo Ready-Mix Concrete, the expansion of Jangteo-gil in front of Geumho Station, and the confirmation of the GTX-C line station at Wangsimni Station. He is recognized by Seongdong residents as one of Seoul’s most effective district mayors. According to the ‘2020 Seoul Survey Urban Policy Index’ released by the Seoul Institute in April 2021, he ranked first in resident trust among Seoul’s 25 autonomous districts, further acknowledging his reputation as a capable district mayor.
Candidate Jung appealed, “Elections are about re-electing those who have done well through voting and judging and replacing those who have not. The development of Seongdong is made by Seongdong residents who vote with conviction and a different class.” He added, “If Seongdong residents choose Jung Won-oh again as the district mayor, I will devote all my energy to working hard.” He passionately energized the rally by repeatedly saying, “Like Coach Hiddink, who advanced to the round of 16 and said he was still hungry but eventually reached the semifinals, I am still hungry for the development of Seongdong,” and “I want to work for the development of Seongdong.”
