[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] As the first weekend since the June 1 local elections began arrives, candidates are campaigning vigorously, and the gubernatorial race in Gyeonggi Province, which both ruling and opposition parties unanimously consider the most competitive battleground, is currently in a state of intense confusion.
In particular, independent candidate Kang Yong-seok is showing a threatening presence to both ruling and opposition candidates, making his presence felt.
He is generally evaluated as effectively leveraging his strengths steadily in TV debates.
On the 21st, during campaign events in Uijeongbu and Goyang areas, Candidate Kang promised, "If regulations on northern Gyeonggi, which is close to Seoul, are eased, it can develop sufficiently in terms of location," adding, "For the residents of northern Gyeonggi who have endured great sacrifices due to the North-South Cold War over the past 70 years, I will identify and lift overlapping regulations to create a northern Gyeonggi where companies can settle."
Candidate Kang said, "Applying a regulation-free zone to the returned U.S. military base Camp Red Cloud in Uijeongbu would reduce resistance and realistically expect development effects."
Candidate Kang expressed confidence in attracting large corporations, stating, "If regulations are lifted along with the implementation of a total floor area ratio system for the 250,000-pyeong area, it would be a place that even large corporations would covet due to Uijeongbu's location."
He then presented a vision, saying, "If large corporations come in along with cooperating companies around them, an economic complex will naturally form, and with regulatory easing and tax support, it can develop sufficiently."

Following this, during the campaign in the Goyang area, he pledged to install a branch line in the Sisa district.
Candidate Kang said, "The biggest problem for Gyeonggi residents is transportation, and to reduce commuting time to Seoul, installing a branch line is important, with the Ilsan Sisa district being a representative area in northern Gyeonggi."
In a recent public opinion poll regarding Candidate Kang's proposal to install a branch line in the Sisa district, he received an 8.8% approval rating, higher than the overall 6.7% in the Goyang area. (For detailed information, refer to the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website)
Candidate Kang's plan is to connect a branch line to Pungsan Station and install stations at Ilsan Dongguk University Hospital and Goyang International High School, respectively.
Candidate Kang especially appealed for support, saying, "Residents of the Sisa district have suffered greatly due to transportation over the past 10 years," adding, "The branch line is a realistic pledge that can be installed without a large budget and provides residents with access to station areas."
On the day of the campaign, Candidate Kang spent time communicating with supporters by taking commemorative photos and personally signing autographs.
