Choi Gye-woon, Candidate for Incheon Superintendent of Education, Proposes Moving City Education Office to Old Downtown Choi Gye-woon, Candidate for Incheon Superintendent of Education

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Choi Gye-woon, the unified conservative candidate for Incheon Superintendent of Education, pledged to relocate the Incheon Office of Education headquarters to the old downtown area if elected.

On the 20th, candidate Choi stated, "The current Incheon Office of Education building lacks sufficient workspace and is so cramped that even the basement is used as office space. Similarly, the adjacent Incheon City Hall also suffers from a shortage of workspace and requires new construction," adding, "It is necessary to relocate the Incheon Office of Education headquarters and transfer the current building to Incheon City to enhance administrative efficiency."

Candidate Choi added, "The new Office of Education building will be located in the old downtown area, but the specific location will be decided after gathering public opinion."

The relocation of the Office of Education was previously attempted during Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok's tenure in the 6th term of Incheon mayoral office, in cooperation with the Office of Education, but was canceled due to opposition from the then superintendent.

Candidate Choi expects that if the relocation pledge is fulfilled, a comfortable educational administration and management workspace will be secured, and with roads and cultural infrastructure established in the old downtown area, residents' quality of life will also improve.

Furthermore, it is anticipated to support Incheon City's administrative goal of preventing the slumification of the old downtown area.

Candidate Choi stated, "The proposed customized education complex center aligns with urban regeneration aspects aimed at revitalizing the old downtown," and added, "If we focus on the revival of the old downtown and the elimination of educational disparities with new towns, we can proceed smoothly with the city's cooperation."
