[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] The number of new COVID-19 cases has remained in the 20,000 range for the second consecutive day.


According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 20th, as of midnight, 25,125 new cases were added, bringing the total cumulative cases to 17,914,957.


The daily new cases have continued to decrease, recording 20,000-level cases for two days in a row following the previous day’s 28,130 cases. This is 7,316 fewer than the 32,441 cases reported a week ago on the 13th.


The number of critically ill patients currently hospitalized is 251, down by 23 from the previous day’s 274. The nationwide critical care bed occupancy rate is 16.0%, with 13.2% in the metropolitan area and 23.3% in non-metropolitan areas.


The number of new COVID-19 deaths recorded as of midnight is 43. The total cumulative deaths stand at 23,885, with a fatality rate of 0.13%.


The number of patients receiving home treatment increased by 25,636 from the previous day, with a total of 168,248 confirmed COVID-19 cases currently undergoing home treatment. Among them, 11,395 are in the intensive management group receiving health care from medical institutions.


The COVID-19 vaccination rates are 87.8% for the first dose, 86.8% for the second dose, and 64.8% for the third dose. The fourth dose vaccination rate for the elderly aged 60 and above is recorded at 26.0%.
