[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Korea Airports Corporation announced on the 19th that it signed a multilateral memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Tourism Organization and nine low-cost carriers (LCCs) at the JW Marriott Hotel in Dongdaemun, Seoul, to promote tourism linked to international routes at regional airports.
The two corporations and the national LCCs agreed to closely cooperate on ▲securing infrastructure at regional airports ▲expanding overseas routes from regional airports ▲joint marketing and promotion for inbound tourism linked to regional airports ▲enhancing global brand awareness of regional airports and LCCs ▲exchange of data and content, in order to support the phased full resumption of international flights and expand inbound tourism.
They shared the view that the prompt normalization of international flights at regional airports should be prioritized to secure inbound tourists. A working-level consultative body will be formed to continuously discover and promote effective joint cooperation projects for aviation and tourism revitalization.
Shin Yong-gu, Head of Aviation Business Division at Korea Airports Corporation, said, "This timely MOU is meaningful as it is signed at an important moment when international flights at regional airports, which had been suspended for a long time due to the post-COVID-19 centralized entry procedures at Incheon Airport, are reopening. We will focus on revitalizing regional airports and expanding inbound demand through close cooperation with the Tourism Organization and national LCCs."
