[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jo Hangyu] The representative spring festival of Jangseong, Jeollanam-do, the ‘Hwangryonggang (洪) Gildongmu Flower Road Festival,’ will be held for 10 days from the 20th to the 29th, the organizers announced on the 19th.
This year’s Hwangryonggang Gildongmu Flower Road Festival, held for the first time in three years since it was suspended due to COVID-19, will welcome visitors with a variety of spring flowers such as golden trumpet flowers, corn poppies, cornflowers, stickyweed, and yellow iris.
The 10 point gardens created along the Hwangryonggang area and the Hwangryonggang Waterfall across the Rose Tunnel are expected to become popular photo spots.
At booths set up in Hwangryonggang Ecological Park, the site of the old public stadium, and the Healing Herb Garden, visitors can enjoy various hands-on activities such as making wooden household items, assembling puzzles, and calligraphy.
In particular, the experience corners operated by residents participating in the Rural New Vitality Plus Project are attracting attention, offering unique programs such as parrot experiences, cookie making, and grasshopper catching.
In front of the Healing Herb Garden and the Rose Tunnel, exhibitions of works, bonsai, and wildflowers prepared by local artists and club members will be held.
In the center of the stadium, playground equipment such as air bumper cars, Viking rides, and mini trains, which children love, will be installed, with usage fees ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 won.
An electric train that allows visitors to comfortably tour the scenery of Hwangryonggang will also operate, and near Jangseong Bridge, water bicycles will be available for riding.
On the 20th at 6:30 p.m., the opening performance by Dongchun Circus will be held at the Jangseong Culture and Arts Center Grand Theater. All seats were sold out early through advance reservations.
On weekends, various genres of music including Korean traditional music, classical, and folk will be performed at venues such as the Healing Herb Garden, Jangan Bridge, Munhwa Bridge, and the Ecological Park Small Theater to enhance the festive atmosphere.
On the 28th, the ‘Hwangryong Gaon’ Changgeuk (traditional Korean opera) performance will also be held at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Jangseong Culture and Arts Center Grand Theater.
Food trucks and food booths will be set up along the embankment path of the old public stadium, where visitors can purchase simple meals and beverages.
A county official said, “Considering that this year’s festival marks the beginning of the return to normal life, it has been organized mainly around small-scale performances, experiential activities, and exhibitions. We will do our best to manage the facilities and maintain a clean environment throughout the festival period.”
