Expansion to All Infectious Diseases by 2024
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] A big data platform linked to COVID-19 related information is scheduled to be established this December.
On the 19th, the Central Disease Control Headquarters announced plans to create a COVID-19 big data platform by December this year to implement science- and data-based quarantine measures.
Ko Jae-young, head of the Crisis Communication Team at the Central Disease Control Headquarters, explained the background of building the big data platform, saying, "Although daily and weekly case status and vaccination statistics are currently disclosed through press releases and websites, original data that allows time series analysis is necessary for systematic research."
The Central Disease Control Headquarters plans to link information dispersed across different systems, such as confirmed cases and vaccination information, through the platform. Both a dashboard-type statistical website accessible to the public and de-identified or pseudonymized data for research and analysis purposes will be promoted together.
Furthermore, the platform will be expanded to cover other infectious diseases beyond COVID-19, aiming to establish a platform for all infectious diseases by 2024.
An official from the Central Disease Control Headquarters stated, "With the establishment of the big data platform, a foundation will be laid for in-depth research related to infectious diseases such as COVID-19," adding, "We hope that various evidence-based infectious disease studies will be conducted both internally and externally."
