Reenacting the Traditional Greeting Ceremony at Okryucheon, Changdeokgung Palace

Praying for a Bountiful Harvest and Highlighting the Importance of Farming

Reenacting the Traditional Greeting Ceremony at Okryucheon, Changdeokgung Palace

The Changdeokgung Management Office and the National Institute of Crop Science will hold a rice planting event at 11 a.m. on the 24th at Cheongujeong (淸?亭) by Okryucheon Stream in Changdeokgung Palace. The event is organized to reflect on the meaning of Chingyeongrye (親耕禮). Chingyeongrye refers to the king personally participating in farming by creating cultivated land around the palace. It was meant to pray for a bountiful harvest that year and to inform the people of the importance of agriculture. Last year, the event was held in a simplified manner to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This year, it will provide an opportunity to experience traditional agricultural culture. A representative from the Changdeokgung Management Office said, "We hope that the king’s benevolent heart, who wished to understand the hardships of the people and their sincere farming spirit, will be conveyed to many."
