Utilization of Branch Tablets → Planned Expansion to Counter Terminals
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] DGB Daegu Bank is implementing a ‘face recognition technology-based face-to-face real-name verification service’ that allows real-name verification through tablet branches without an ID card.
This service replaces the original real-name verification documents such as resident registration cards, which were essential for identity verification during face-to-face financial transactions, with face recognition technology to confirm real names. It is an innovative financial service under the financial regulatory sandbox.
DGB Daegu Bank is applying the face-to-face real-name verification service using the ‘Tablet Branch’ distributed to all its branches and is considering expanding it to branch counter terminals depending on future usage activation.
Customers who wish to use the service proceed by logging into the IM Bank app on their own smart device, then scanning the QR code displayed on the tablet branch provided at each branch to take a facial photo for face recognition.
Once the face recognition process is completed with the instantly captured face, the bank’s computer system compares and verifies it against the existing ID card and conducts authenticity verification of the ID.
Im Seong-hoon, President of Daegu Bank, said, “After implementing the face-to-face real-name verification service using the tablet branch, DGB Daegu Bank is preparing services that can replace existing plastic ID cards, such as the introduction of mobile driver’s licenses,” adding, “We will provide differentiated and diverse financial services with advanced technology.”
