Suncheon Party Member Files Injunction Lawsuit at Seoul Southern District Court

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] A lawsuit seeking a 'suspension of nomination validity' against Oh Ha-geun, the Democratic Party candidate for Suncheon mayor, has been filed, and the court's ruling is awaited.

On the 18th, Democratic Party member Mr. K and others issued a press release stating that they had filed a petition for a 'suspension of nomination validity' against Oh Ha-geun, the Democratic Party candidate for Suncheon mayor, at the Seoul Southern District Court the previous day.

So far, cases where injunctions were granted due to nominations violating party regulations include the Incheon Ganghwa County mayor candidate and also the Gyeongnam Uiryeong County mayor candidate.

On the 12th, the Seoul Southern District Court issued an injunction suspending the validity of the People Power Party's nomination, ruling that it violated party regulations, which raised public interest and dissatisfaction regarding the Suncheon mayoral primary election as well.

Party member Mr. K and others stated, "We filed the injunction lawsuit to seek a legal judgment on whether the Democratic Party Suncheon mayoral primary was conducted properly."

It is in the same vein that candidate Oh, who received a sentence of '1 year imprisonment with 2 years probation' for embezzlement while operating a hospital in 2012, was nominated by the Democratic Party, similar to the Ganghwa County mayor candidate.

Accordingly, if the injunction is granted, the nomination could be revoked like the People Power Party candidates for Ganghwa County mayor and Uiryeong County mayor, attracting public attention.

The Democratic Party also includes in Article 6, Paragraph 8 of Party Regulation No. 10 on the Recommendation of Public Office Candidates and the Evaluation Committee for Elected Officials, those disqualified as candidates for public office due to criminal offenses such as bribery, solicitation, embezzlement of public funds, etc., who have been sentenced to imprisonment or probation or are currently on trial, drawing public condemnation.
