[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The Korea Pharmaceutical Association, the Korea Pharmaceutical and Bio-Pharma Manufacturers Association, and the Korea Drug Distributors Association, three major organizations in the pharmaceutical industry, announced on the 18th that they will actively support North Korea, where COVID-19 is spreading, with medicines and other supplies.

The three organizations explained that despite the worsening situation with more than 300,000 confirmed cases per day due to the recent infectious disease outbreak, they decided to jointly respond on a humanitarian basis considering North Korea's poor healthcare system and shortage of medicines.

The three organizations plan to secure essential medicines, health masks, hand sanitizers, and other supplies as quickly as possible from member companies of the Korea Pharmaceutical and Bio-Pharma Manufacturers Association once the government’s plan to support North Korea with medicines and other supplies is finalized, and deliver them to North Korea.

Meanwhile, the "Pharmaceutical Industry Emergency Relief Network," led by these three organizations, was established in July 2019 to provide humanitarian relief medicines and supplies in the event of domestic and international emergencies and disasters.
