CU, Membership App Revamp Shows Strong Results... New Subscribers Double CU's membership application (app) Pocket CU.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] CU announced on the 18th that the membership application (app) PocketCU has seen a significant increase in new subscribers and active members since its revamp.


According to CU, from the 19th of last month to the 16th of this month, the daily average number of new subscribers to PocketCU doubled compared to the previous month. The number of active members increased from 2.5 million at the end of last year to 3.1 million.


The feature with the highest usage rate was the all-product inventory inquiry service. The inventory inquiry service is a new feature introduced through this app revamp. The existing popular product search service, which provided real-time inventory quantities of hot issue products by store, has been expanded to allow users to check real-time inventory for all products handled by CU. This feature, which solves the inconvenience of having to search stores for desired products or making wasted trips due to out-of-stock items, quickly gained popularity, with the inventory inquiry service surpassing 6.7 million inquiries within a month of its launch. The average daily number of app users of PocketCU also increased by about 30% compared to before.


CU is focusing on strengthening e-commerce functions based on PocketCU. Through CU Market, which sells digital devices, limited edition, and collaboration products that are hard to find in stores; CU Delivery, which delivers products to customers' doorsteps; and CU Bar, where customers can order from over 1,200 types of wine, CU plans to develop PocketCU into a multi-platform where customers can enjoy one-stop shopping.


A BGF Retail official said, “Despite the recent easing of social distancing measures leading to a gradual increase in offline demand over online, it is significant that the number of customers using PocketCU continues to grow,” adding, “We will continue to invest in and develop PocketCU to expand the CU Universe, which organically connects online and offline based on the membership app.”
