[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] The police have dismissed the case against comfort woman victim Lee Yong-soo (94), who was accused of perjury in court. Dismissal is a measure to close a case without substantive judgment when the conditions for a lawsuit are not met.

On the 17th, the Jongno Police Station in Seoul announced that it had dismissed the case in which a civic group accused Lee of perjury.

The police judged that Lee could not be the subject of perjury because she was a party to the lawsuit, and thus the elements of the offense were not met.

Meanwhile, on the 6th of last month, the civic group Citizens' Action for the Abolition of the Comfort Women Law filed a complaint, claiming that Lee's testimony referring to herself as a "comfort woman forcibly mobilized by Imperial Japan" in a damages lawsuit against the Japanese government was false. This group denies the fact of comfort women victimization and argues that there was no forced mobilization by Imperial Japan.
