The Nation's First Public Children's Rehabilitation Hospital Operated by Chungnam National University Hospital

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam National University Hospital will be in charge of operating the nation’s first public pediatric rehabilitation hospital. The public pediatric rehabilitation hospital is scheduled to open in Daejeon by the end of this year.

On the 17th, Daejeon City announced that it signed a “Consignment Agreement for the Management and Operation of the Daejeon-Chungnam Public Pediatric Rehabilitation Hospital” with Chungnam National University Hospital.

According to the agreement, once the public pediatric rehabilitation hospital opens, Chungnam National University Hospital will be entrusted with hospital operations for five years, taking full responsibility for hospital personnel management, rehabilitation treatment for children with disabilities, and facility management.

Additionally, the city will support operating expenses and budgets for projects to revitalize public rehabilitation medical services while exercising supervisory authority over hospital operations.

Based on the agreement, both institutions plan to cooperate in efficiently managing and operating the Daejeon-Chungnam public pediatric rehabilitation hospital and providing public medical services aimed at appropriate rehabilitation treatment and health promotion for children with disabilities.

Earlier, on the 11th of last month, the city held a selection committee meeting for the public pediatric rehabilitation hospital consignment institution and ultimately selected Chungnam National University Hospital as the consignment institution.

Lee Taek-gu, Acting Mayor of Daejeon (Deputy Mayor for Administration), stated, “The public pediatric rehabilitation hospital will be the nation’s first public medical service facility to perform rehabilitation treatment, education, and care functions for children with severe disabilities in the Daejeon-Chungnam area. After opening, it is expected to play a pioneering role in meeting the medical needs of approximately 220,000 children with disabilities and their families in the Daejeon-Chungnam region.”

Meanwhile, the Daejeon-Chungnam public pediatric rehabilitation hospital is being built in Gwanjeo-dong, Seo-gu, with a capacity of 70 beds (50 inpatient, 20 day care).

The city is currently carrying out construction aiming for an opening at the end of December, with the current progress rate at 36%.
