Developing 'Meal Kits' Featuring Local Flavors and Street Food of Gokseong


[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it has embarked on developing meal kits to expand the consumer market for local food.


On the 16th, consulting for the "Our Neighborhood Food Meal Kit Project" was held at the Gokseong Leisure Culture Center.


At the consulting session, 13 local restaurants attended and sought various advice on the meal kit business from Chef Kang Leo.


In particular, it was an opportunity to explore specific packaging plans on how to package various foods from each business.


Gokseong-gun's initiative to develop meal kits was inspired by the annual increase in camping users since COVID-19.


The strategy is to create meal kits from menus of restaurants with local competitiveness and sell them at local campgrounds.


Campers will be able to easily enjoy famous local dishes that are hard to access outdoors at the campgrounds, and restaurants are expected to seek new vitality through increased sales.


To develop the meal kits, Gokseong-gun recruited participating restaurants last March.


As a result, 25 restaurants applied, showing high interest even within the region.


Among them, after deliberation by the president of the Gokseong-gun Restaurant Association and four representatives of major local campgrounds, 13 locations were selected as target businesses.


Prior to this consulting, the selected businesses received education on the entire process from meal kit production to sales in April at the Daehwang Hall of the Gokseong Leisure Culture Center.


On June 3, a final demonstration of the finished products will be held with participating restaurants and campground representatives, and full-scale promotion will begin.


Additionally, starting in July, when the vacation season begins, a delivery system will be established to connect consumers through local campgrounds.


Besides meal kits, Gokseong-gun has recently been focusing efforts on specializing local food.


Last year, it promoted Seokgok Black Pork Charcoal Grill nationwide through famous YouTuber Tzuyang and developed a new dish using black pork called "Kkaebi Jeongsik," which is gaining popularity.


A Gokseong-gun official said, "We will successfully promote the meal kit project to introduce the taste of our region to more people and help revitalize local restaurants."
