[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] As the culture of walking with pets spreads, the Korea Tourism Organization is stepping up support to promote travel with companion dogs.
The organization announced on the 17th that it will carry out the ‘DaengDaeng Trip’ program linked to the ‘DaengDaeng Trekking’ festival for companion dogs held around High1 Resort in Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon Province.
DaengDaeng Trekking, which started in 2017, will be held over two days from the 21st to the 22nd. Various events with companion dogs will take place, including a companion dog trekking race, treasure hunt, and a leash-free DaengDaeng free zone.
DaengDaeng Trip consists of selecting and promoting five travel destinations in Jeongseon and Yeongwol counties where pets can accompany their owners (▲Najeon Station Cafe in Jeongseon ▲Time Capsule Park ▲Mindungsan Trekking Course ▲Kkotbyorujae ▲Yoseonam Dolgaegumeong in Yeongwol). The program is promoted through Instagramtoons created in collaboration with illustrator ‘Meongdi’.
Additionally, during the event period, a prize giveaway event will be held by drawing 200 participants who visit at least one location, take photos with their pets, and upload them on Instagram with the required hashtags.
‘Dog President’ trainer Kang Hyungwook will also conduct an online lecture on pet etiquette at travel destinations.
Since March, the organization has been conducting a domestic survey on pet-friendly travel and plans to build and provide a comprehensive information database containing pet-friendly travel destinations and accommodation information to offer future travel information for companion dogs.
Jung Yongmun, head of the Leisure Tourism Team at the Korea Tourism Organization, said, “In the second half of the year, we will promote the development of unique products such as the ‘DaengDaeng Train’ using a dedicated dog train in cooperation with professional travel agencies,” adding, “We will strive to make travel with companion dogs a new growth engine for revitalizing domestic tourism through discovering various content and promotion.”
