At the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The '42nd Anniversary 5·18 Democratization Movement Commemoration Ceremony' will be held at 10 a.m. on the 18th at the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery.
According to the Gwangju Regional Veterans Office (Director Lim Jong-bae) on the 16th, about 2,000 people including 5·18 democracy meritorious persons and their families, government officials, representatives from various sectors, and students are expected to attend the ceremony following the easing of the 'mandatory COVID-19 social distancing measures.'
On the day of the ceremony, traffic will be controlled from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the road near the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery, specifically from Cheongoksamgeori to Sugok and Taeryeong Samgeori, to prevent traffic congestion.
Attendees arriving by private vehicles without parking permits can park at the temporary parking lots operated at Gwangju Dong Elementary School and Hyoryeong Senior Welfare Town, then use shuttle buses to move to the ceremony venue.
The Gwangju Metropolitan City will also increase the number of bus 518 services and extend bus route 06 to operate up to the National Cemetery and Yeongnak Park.
A representative from the Gwangju Regional Veterans Office said, “Since many citizens are expected to visit the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery on the day of the ceremony, we kindly ask that those not invited to the ceremony visit the cemetery after the event.”
