Gyeongnam Region Criticizes "Democratic Party Politicized"
Mentions Promises Like Tongyeong High-Speed Rail and Namhaean Belt
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, targeted former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo, saying, "The previous governor was very corrupt and politically engaged in things that should not have been done, resulting in almost none of the promises made to the residents of Gyeongnam being fulfilled, and the provincial administration was abandoned as four years passed."
At the Hope Gyeongnam Election Committee launch ceremony held on the 15th in Changwon, Gyeongnam, Lee said, "The governors, mayors, county heads, and local council members we elect this time must be public officials who clearly contrast with that."
He said, "Gimhae has been politicized by the Democratic Party until now," adding, "It is the place where former President Roh Moo-hyun passed away and where his residence is located, so they speak of it as their sacred ground, calling it the Nakdong River Belt and saying it must be protected. But before that, the lives of Gimhae citizens are important, and we must compete with sincere pledges to develop Gimhae. Therefore, we must win in Gimhae this time."
He also mentioned the Yangsan area, pointing out, "President Moon Jae-in is retiring and trying to engage in residence politics." He said, "What kind of place is Yangsan? It is a region north of Busan where many young people live and nurture their dreams and hopes. We cannot allow such a place to be politicized."
He then promised to implement policies for local residents. He said, "We believe that the Yeongnam and Honam regions should develop evenly," adding, "Former Governor Kim talked a lot about the North-South inland high-speed railway, but we should push it more decisively and quickly to create a high-speed railway that opens up from Jinju to Tongyeong."
He also emphasized the need to promote the Moonlight High-Speed Railway, the Daegu-Gwangju Expressway construction, and the Namhaean Belt connecting Namhae and Hadong.
Lee said, "I ask the candidates to make their best efforts to achieve good results so that, together with the members of the National Assembly, we can achieve the development of Gyeongnam and the region," promising, "I will definitely support you, and the central party will firmly back the development of Gyeongnam."
