Mokpo City Launches Full-Scale Promotion of Regional Linked Tourism Activation

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] On the 12th, a regular meeting for the regional linked tourism revitalization project promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism was held at the Fontana Beach Tourist Hotel in Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do.

According to the city on the 13th, the meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Korea Tourism Development Institute, regional project management teams, and Mokpo City to share the progress and achievements of the project in the first half of the year, report on plans for the second half, and discuss future schedules.

The regional linked tourism revitalization project divides the country into 10 regions, designates themes, and supports linked tourism products and infrastructure based on those themes. It is a follow-up project to the ‘Top 10 Themed Travel Destinations’ project, supporting promotional marketing so that each region can maintain a self-sustaining foundation and establish linked tourism even after the ‘Top 10 Themed Travel Destinations’ project ends.

The city plans to promote detailed projects such as developing regional linked tourism products and creating Namdo Matgihaeng taste tourism goods as an extension of the ‘Namdo Matgihaeng’ theme, which is the 8th region of the Top 10 Themed Travel Destinations, together with Gwangju, Naju, and Damyang.

To attract tourists nationwide and enhance promotional effects, the regional linked tourism products will be consigned and operated by a major travel agency, Modetour. Courses linking Mokpo’s major tourist attractions such as ‘Mokpo Marine Cable Car’ and ‘Mokpo Gourmet Culture Gallery Haegwan ?1897-’ with Naju City are currently being developed.

The Namdo Matgihaeng taste tourism goods are being repackaged and designed as a product called the ‘One Drink Set,’ which includes dried filefish from Mokpo and bamboo leaf liquor from Damyang.

An official from the city stated, “With the easing of social distancing measures due to COVID-19, domestic tourism is revitalizing, and we will strive to activate linked tourism to increase the number of tourists.”
