[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Dongseo University won two Silver Awards and one Bronze Award at the CLIO Awards, known as the Oscars of the advertising industry.
The CLIO Awards, first held in 1959, is a stage where more than 19,000 works from 65 countries compete annually.
The awards are recognized as one of the world's top three advertising festivals selected by the International Advertising Association (IAA), along with the Cannes International Advertising Festival and the New York Festival.
The Silver Award-winning works Smelly Belt were created by students Jeong Yu-seong, Lee Hong, Ha Eun-byeol, Kang Dong-ho, and Bang Seung-yeon; Smart Label Package by Lee Young-jun, Park Jun-hyeok, Lee Seo-young, Ha Eun-byeol, and Jo Dong-ha; and the Bronze Award-winning work Fake Boss by Kim Dae-yeop, Kim Yu-jin, Kang Dong-ho, and Lim Hye-jung.
The award-winning works were produced under the guidance of the Dongseo University convergence course ‘Ideation Convergence Practice’.
The Silver Award-winning ‘Smelly Belt’ features a block made of a liquid called thiol inside the belt buckle. Once the buckle is opened, the smell lasts for about a month, and a search dog can detect the scent from up to 1 km away to find missing persons.
The ‘Smart Label Package’ applies thermochromic ink to a milk package, changing the word “Milk” to “ill” after the 10-day expiration date, creating a 'smart label package.'
This idea aims to prevent children from consuming milk without recognizing the concept of expiration dates or noticing the small print indicating the milk’s condition.
The Bronze Award-winning ‘Fake Boss’ is an idea that allows virtual fitting of suits created through collaboration between the clothing brand Hugo BOSS and the video conferencing company Zoom.
Young professionals often hesitate to buy expensive suits for video interviews. ‘Fake Boss’ provides virtual suits to solve this inconvenience.
The Ideation Convergence Practice course has achieved results such as winning Best of the Best and a total of 16 Winners at the German Reddot Awards, Silver and Shortlist awards at the 2021 CLIO Awards, four Winners at the New York Festival International Advertising Awards, and a Winner at the Cannes Advertising Festival.
