[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province has been selected as an excellent institution in the fine dust reduction evaluation of cities and counties.
On the 14th, Suwon City announced that it ranked 2nd among 11 basic local governments in Group 1 (cities and counties with a population of 510,000 or more) in the fine dust reduction evaluation of 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province recently conducted by Gyeonggi Province.
With this, Suwon City has been selected as an excellent institution for four consecutive years, including the best (1st place) in 2019, encouragement (3rd place) in 2020, and excellence (2nd place) in 2021.
Suwon City first reduced the annual average concentration of ultrafine dust by 27% over the past six years through systematic fine dust reduction policies. In addition, it established the "Suwon City Comprehensive Fine Dust Management Plan" in September 2020, which includes achieving an annual average ultrafine dust concentration of 17㎍/㎥ or less by 2025, and has been steadily carrying out reduction projects.
Furthermore, it is promoting quantitative reduction projects such as ▲ low-emission conversion of grade 5 vehicles ▲ distribution of eco-friendly vehicles ▲ management of road re-scattered dust.
In particular, 24 places including elementary schools within the "Fine Dust Intensive Management Zone" are supported with ventilation systems (41 units), and efforts are being strengthened such as revising fine dust-related ordinances, expanding support projects, and education.
An official from the city said, "This excellent institution selection is the result of setting fine dust reduction goals suitable for local conditions under the theme of 'A Sustainable City with Breath, Suwon-type Comprehensive Fine Dust Management' and implementing effective policies," adding, "We will continue to discover and promote fine dust reduction projects that have a high level of citizen awareness."
