The Gubernatorial Election Race Kicks Off in Full Swing, Featuring Representative Kim Tae-ho and All Nominees from the People Power Party

About 1,000 guests and supporters gathered at the opening ceremony held at the election camp at 3 p.m. that day, including Kim Tae-ho, the regional chairman, preliminary candidates for provincial and county council members of the People Power Party, Hwang Tae-jin, chairman of the county council, Kim Heung-sik, former director of the cultural center, Lee Tae-su, president of the senior citizens' association, Song Kyung-yeol, chairman of the Hamyang County Sports Association, Jeong Sang-gi, director of the cultural center, Kang Shin-taek, county council member, and Yoo Seong-yeon, president of the Korea Agricultural Managers Hamyang County Federation.

Kim Tae-ho, who took the microphone first, said, “Candidate Seo is like a scholar, and despite accomplishing great things such as successfully hosting the best expo amid COVID-19 with tremendous drive, he does not promote himself. If you don’t understand vision or how to work, and if you don’t coordinate well with the government ruling party and the local member of the National Assembly, you cannot be a county governor. Who else would work well hand in hand with Kim Tae-ho?” he cheered.

He continued, “Yesterday, the Yoon Seok-yeol government was inaugurated. I will also expand my activities in close communication with President Yoon,” and added, “Hwang Tae-jin, who competed in the primary, also promised to support candidate Seo. I will pour all my abilities into Hamyang together with candidate Seo. Please unite your strength so that number 2 wins overwhelmingly in this election.”

Kim Heung-sik, former director of the cultural center, emphasized in his congratulatory speech, “Candidate Seo has more than enough administrative experience, has sufficiently experienced county administration, knows policies and priorities best, and is a candidate who can realize the big picture with active support from the government ruling party and Assemblyman Kim Tae-ho. Therefore, I am confident in candidate Seo’s victory.”

Following this, there was a congratulatory video from Park Wan-su, the People Power Party candidate for governor, a poetry reading by poet Heo Young-ja, and a letter reading from a Hamyang resident.

In the letter, the resident said, “Four years ago, Hamyang had four consecutive county governors arrested, and the pride of the residents hit rock bottom after being featured in a broadcast called ‘The Graveyard of County Governors.’ Therefore, the biggest task was to elect a county governor who would never be arrested again,” and added, “In that atmosphere, candidate Seo was elected, completed his four-year term well, did not let the residents’ choice go to waste, and protected Hamyang’s pride.”

Candidate Seo Chunsu said, “I have carried out emergency county administration for the past four years to eliminate corruption and bribery that made all residents infinitely ashamed four years ago and to protect the lives and livelihoods of residents from COVID-19. I finally bore the fruits of successful quarantine and normalization of county administration and completed my term without stepping down midway.”

He also asserted, “I will complete with my own hands the foundation of corruption elimination and normalization of county administration that I have built over the past four years, as well as the major policy flow for regional development, so that it will not be interrupted.”

He shouted, “Who is the county governor who fulfilled the term fully and protected Hamyang’s honor, eliminated personnel and construction corruption that had continued as a custom, is a candidate who has no worries about recouping money after being elected through money politics, an administrative expert who can lead smooth county administration without a four-year practice period, and a candidate who can secure budgets and projects well with full support from the government ruling party and the local member of the National Assembly?” which led to cheers from the attendees.

Hwang Tae-jin, who recently competed in the People Power Party primary, pledged, “An overwhelming victory is necessary for the success of the Yoon Seok-yeol government. I will also contribute all my strength,” receiving enthusiastic responses and applause.
