The Gwangju Northern Police Station announced on the 12th that bus driver Mr. A was booked without detention on charges of violating the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling (negligent homicide).
Mr. A is accused of hitting and killing an elementary school student who was crossing the crosswalk at an intersection in Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, while attempting to make a right turn around 5 p.m. the previous day.
The victim was immediately transported to the hospital after the accident but died.
Mr. A reportedly told the police that he did not see the student crossing the crosswalk. The area is known not to be a designated school zone.
