[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] "There are no limits to the features of Wear OS, the wearable-exclusive operating system (OS) provided through collaboration between Samsung Electronics and Google."

On the 12th, Google unveiled the health solution for smartwatches, 'Health Connect,' at the 'Annual Developer Conference 2022.' This is a result of cooperation with Samsung Electronics. Additionally, the voice recognition service 'Google Assistant' will be applied to the Galaxy Watch4 series within the second half of the year.

Patrick Chomet, Vice President and Head of Customer Experience (CX) at Samsung Electronics Mobile Experience (MX) Division (photo), conveyed this through the Samsung Electronics Newsroom, stating, "We aim to improve user experiences by broadly integrating Samsung Electronics' wearable ecosystem with Android."

Samsung and Google have been joining forces since last year to provide innovative experiences for Galaxy users. Their collaboration led to the creation of Wear OS, and Watch Face Studio, which allows general users to easily create their own watch faces, was also launched. Wear OS is an integrated platform for wearable devices that combines the advantages of open Android with Samsung's expertise in wearable software (SW) and hardware (HW).

Vice President Patrick Chomet explained, "Looking at the remarkable increase in users just one year after Samsung and Google introduced Wear OS, this collaboration has been very successful," adding, "The number of Wear OS devices this year has surged more than threefold compared to the same period last year."

He emphasized that this is just the beginning and announced various future collaborations with Google. Patrick Chomet said, "When Samsung Galaxy users download Wear OS-compatible applications from the Google Play Store, the same apps can be automatically installed on their Galaxy Watch," and added, "Users of Samsung Galaxy devices such as the Galaxy Watch4 series can enjoy the benefits of the partnership between companies and the cutting-edge features of the latest platform first."

The enhanced features will also be provided to partners within the wearable ecosystem. Patrick Chomet stated, "Soon, Spotify will be integrated with Google Assistant, allowing users to enjoy conveniences such as changing music using only their voice," and added, "In the second half of this year, we plan to optimize and provide more Google apps and services on Galaxy Watches, supporting Android OS users to further expand their wearable device experiences."
