[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province has initiated the establishment of a general hospital within Chungnam Innovation City.

According to the province on the 12th, Chungnam Development Corporation signed a land sale contract for medical facility sites within Chungnam Innovation City with Myongji Medical Foundation the day before.

Previously, Chungnam Development Corporation launched the supply of medical facility sites through an open competitive bidding process, and Myongji Medical Foundation was selected as the successful bidder on the 9th.

Myongji Medical Foundation is reported to build a regional base hospital with more than 500 beds on the medical facility site within Chungnam Innovation City. The hospital will be equipped with an emergency medical center capable of treating severe and emergency patients, as well as a severe cerebrovascular center.

Details regarding the hospital's size, opening schedule, and strategy will be announced after consultations with the province and Chungnam Development Corporation.

The province expects that once the general hospital is established in Chungnam Innovation City, it will alleviate the inconvenience faced by local residents who have had to visit medical institutions in other regions such as Cheonan, Daejeon, and the metropolitan area for outpatient treatment during emergencies.

A provincial official stated, “We plan to complete procedures such as receiving and verifying project proposals and formally sign an agreement for the construction of the general hospital within the first half of the year,” adding, “The establishment of the general hospital is expected to contribute to Chungnam Innovation City’s leap as the center of the Pan Yellow Sea region, improve residential conditions, and create large-scale jobs in the Hongseong and Yesan areas.”

Meanwhile, Myongji Medical Foundation operates hospitals with a total capacity of 1,000 beds, including Myongji Hospital in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province (680 beds), Jecheon Myongji Hospital in Chungbuk (176 beds), and Cheongpungho Senior Love Hospital (175 beds).

The main hospital operates a regional emergency medical center responsible for final emergency medical care in the northwestern Gyeonggi region.

Additionally, it operates a heart center performing heart transplant surgeries?only possible in 25 hospitals nationwide including advanced general hospitals?a severe cerebrovascular center, and an organ transplant center performing liver and kidney transplants.
