[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Kolon Industries announced on the 11th that it will showcase its next-generation display material, transparent polyimide (CPI)® film, at the world's largest display conference, the '2022 SID (Society for Information Display)', held in San Jose, California, USA from the 8th to the 13th (local time).
CPI® film is a brand of transparent polyimide film that Kolon Industries successfully mass-produced for the first time in the world in 2019 and registered as a trademark. It does not scratch or break even after being folded hundreds of thousands of times, making it applicable to various foldable display types. The company is also working on developing a new CPI® film that surpasses ultra-thin glass.
Kolon Industries plans to set up a separate booth during the event to promote the potential of CPI® film. They will exhibit an indoor LED (light-emitting diode) transparent display, which can only be realized with CPI®, using an LCD signage applied with CPI® film.
They will also showcase Solatree (a solar power generation facility resembling a tree that provides shade during the day and lighting at night). This is to demonstrate the potential use of CPI® film beyond smartphones and medium-to-large screens into future technologies. Business meetings with global clients will also be held.
Kang Eegu, Vice President of Kolon Industries in charge of the CPI film business, said, "We participated in this event as a good opportunity to widely promote the differentiated technology of CPI® film to the global market," adding, "Although the market is still in its early stages, we will lead market expansion based on our unique competitiveness."
SID is the world's largest display exhibition and conference. This year marks its 60th anniversary, and it was held offline for the first time in three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Several related companies from Korea participate to share research and development achievements and introduce new display products. Kolon Industries also participated in SID in 2018, when CPI® film was selected as the 'Display Material of the Year.'
