KT Alpha Reports Operating Profit of 6.2 Billion KRW in Q1, Up 656.4% YoY

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] KT Alpha announced on the 10th that its sales in the first quarter of this year reached 132 billion KRW, a 40.7% increase compared to the same period last year. Operating profit recorded 6.2 billion KRW, a 656.4% increase reflecting the results of last year's investments.

Commerce business sales amounted to 80.8 billion KRW, up 23.4% year-on-year. The growth in transaction volume centered on general and health foods, as well as daily necessities and fashion accessories categories, driven by the spread of non-face-to-face shopping culture, led to the sales increase. K Shopping plans to continue sustainable growth by maximizing product efficiency based on channel competitiveness and promoting mobile commerce activation through customer-centered user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) redesign.

Mobile gift commerce business sales reached 17 billion KRW, a 27.7% increase year-on-year, due to increased Giftishow sales during the Lunar New Year holiday period and expansion of B2B client companies. The mobile gift commerce business plans to actively expand new customers by diversifying lifestyle-oriented mobile gift certificates and to enhance Giftishow Biz as a marketing platform for corporate clients to secure more business customers.

Content business sales recorded 9.2 billion KRW, a 7.3% decrease year-on-year, due to a reduction in the movie lineup following investment efficiency improvements. The content business plans to expand the supply of various genres of content to platforms such as Netflix, Coupang Play, and Watcha, and strengthen global licensing acquisition. Additionally, it will focus on maximizing profitability through platform expansion of its self-operated movie specialty PP channel, Cinema Cheongguk.

ICT business sales reached 25 billion KRW, a 35.5% increase year-on-year, driven by the expansion of Bizlingo sales and increased orders for AICC construction and advancement projects. The ICT business plans to strengthen sales based on the launch of new DX call products targeting small business owners and to promote AI and big data-based construction and operation projects such as AICC.
