Ministry of Science and ICT Supports Development of Solo Media Creators

[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] The government is launching the so-called 'Changchang Project' to nurture solo media creators (content creators).

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 10th that, in collaboration with the Korea Radio Promotion Association, it will recruit participants (teams) for this year's full-time solo media creator development project from the 11th of this month until the 1st of next month.

This project aims to revitalize the 'creator economy' by helping mid-level creators in their growth stage establish a stable revenue base and enter digital media platforms such as online video services (OTT) and metaverse (extended virtual worlds) with specialized content unique to creators.

After evaluating creators' growth potential, expertise, and proactiveness, a total of 30 teams will be selected to receive a support program over approximately four months. This program includes channel growth, specialized content production, entry into digital media platforms, and establishing a stable revenue base through unique creator branding.

Each team will be assigned a dedicated expert to provide ongoing consultation and performance management regarding channel operation and commercialization, as well as opportunities for collaboration with companies. Costs for content production and access to solo media complexes and private production facilities and equipment will also be supported.

Any solo media creator (team) who owns and operates a channel on an online video platform and has more than 10,000 subscribers can apply regardless of residence, genre, or affiliation.

Meanwhile, since 2015, the Ministry of Science and ICT has discovered and supported 704 promising new creator teams through the solo media creator development project over seven years.
