[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kang Maeng-hoon, the People Power Party candidate for Seongdong-gu Mayor, held an opening ceremony at the Seongdong-gu election office at 3 p.m. on the 9th, attended by about 100 supporters.

The opening ceremony was attended by a large number of local political and government figures, including Ahn Cheol-soo, Chairman of the Presidential Transition Committee, Park Seong-joong, Chairman of the Seoul City Party Committee, Jin Soo-hee, Party District Committee Chairperson, and Ji Sang-wook, Party District Committee Chairperson, who supported candidate Kang Maeng-hoon.

In particular, the opening ceremony of Kang Maeng-hoon, candidate for Seongdong-gu Mayor, received great attention due to the visit of Ahn Cheol-soo, Chairman of the Presidential Transition Committee. Chairman Ahn said, “If candidate Kang Maeng-hoon attracts Google to the Seongdong-gu area, the industries of small business owners, self-employed, and small and medium enterprises will be revitalized, giving it competitiveness compared to other regions,” and added, “The only person who can lead Seongdong-gu into a competitive premium city by maximizing the use of manpower and resources is candidate Kang Maeng-hoon,” asking for full support.

Kang Maeng-hoon, the People Power Party candidate for Seongdong-gu Mayor, stated, “For ‘Tomorrow’s City, Great Seongdong,’ I will become a mayor who prioritizes the rights and interests of Seongdong residents,” and expressed his ambition, saying, “Based on 30 years of experience as an urban engineering expert, I will make Seongdong-gu a true city and Seoul’s premier luxury residential area.”

Kang’s main pledges include ▲ attracting Google through the development of the Sampyo Remicon site ▲ creating the Seongsu advanced convergence complex comparable to the MIT Media Lab ▲ promoting the Seongsu strategic maintenance district that surpasses ‘Hudson Yards’ ▲ restoring Seoul Forest to create a green pedestrian axis connected to the Han River.

Kang Maeng-hoon served as head of the architectural planning team at the Ministry of Construction and Transportation, housing and architecture policy officer of Seoul City, and director of urban regeneration (Grade 1) of Seoul City, and has been active as Korea’s top urban engineering Ph.D. Recently, he served as a member of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Policy Subcommittee of the People Power Party for the 20th presidential election.
