[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Air Premia, Korea's first hybrid airline, announced on the 9th that it was selected as the New Airline of the Year at the 'Aviation Awards' event held at Changi International Airport on the 4th.
The event was held by Changi International Airport, inviting over 120 representatives from 71 airlines across 36 countries. After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this event was held again to celebrate this year's achievements and recognize the contributions of airline partners.
At this event, Air Premia was awarded the 'New Airline of the Year Award 2022' by the Minister of Transport of Singapore. A total of 34 awards across 3 categories were presented at the Changi International Airport Aviation Awards.
Despite the difficult situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, unlike existing airlines, Air Premia introduced the Boeing 787-9, known as the Dreamliner, emphasizing reasonable prices and high-quality service. Following its current cargo routes, it is planning to launch passenger flights on the Incheon~Singapore route around June.
Air Premia is a Hybrid Service Carrier (HSC) specializing in medium- to long-haul business models. It operates two classes: Premium Economy and Economy. Notably, the Premium Economy class offers the widest seat pitch of 42 inches among airlines worldwide. Additionally, services comparable to business class are provided, including dedicated counters, priority boarding, priority baggage claim, premium in-flight meals, and generous checked baggage allowance.
Meanwhile, Air Premia plans to add three more aircraft this year. By 2024, it aims to operate a total fleet of 10 aircraft. All aircraft will be standardized to Boeing 787-9 (Dreamliner) to pursue high efficiency while operating long-haul routes. Starting with the Singapore route, expansion of passenger routes to LA, Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, Narita, Bangkok, as well as long-haul routes to the U.S. East Coast, Canada, and Europe is under consideration.
