Suncheon City Hosts the 7th Suncheon Gourmet Battle... Competition Among Chicken Dish Masters

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 9th that it will hold the 7th Suncheon Gourmet Competition, themed around chicken, which is popular among all age groups, until the 17th of next month.

This gourmet competition is divided into two categories: grilled chicken and other chicken dishes, and is a food contest to select the best chicken restaurants in Suncheon. Local restaurants, excluding franchise stores, can participate.

Restaurants wishing to participate can submit an application form including a food description and a completed photo to the Suncheon City Tourism Division from the 9th to the 20th.

The city plans to select 10 teams per category through a first document screening and a second on-site evaluation and award them.

In particular, this year, the top-rated restaurants will be designated as Suncheon representative restaurants for the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo, held from April to October next year, and will be promoted accordingly.

A Suncheon city official stated, “Suncheon has been proven to be a gourmet city rich in seasonal local agricultural products and food through the Suncheon Gourmet Competition and national food contests,” adding, “During the 2023 Garden Expo, we will strive to make visitors who come to Suncheon never forget its taste and return again by promoting food tourism in Suncheon.”

Meanwhile, the Suncheon Gourmet Competition is a food contest held for the 7th time this year since 2018, aiming to promote Suncheon as a historical and cultural city as well as an ecological gourmet city through cooking contests using seasonal local agricultural products of Suncheon.

Until last year, it was held with nine contest themes including Korean traditional set meals, selecting 99 restaurants, attaching plaques, and promoting them as the best restaurants in Suncheon.
