[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Lee Jae-myung, former governor of Gyeonggi Province and member of the Democratic Party of Korea, who is facing public outrage over allegations of corruption in the Daejang-dong development project, has been strategically nominated for the by-election in Incheon Gyeyang-eul.

Kim Dong-yeon, the Democratic Party candidate for governor of Gyeonggi Province, expressed his support on social media, saying, "I agree with the advisor's remark that personal gains and losses are secondary," and added, "We will join forces to realize the value of the 'joint declaration for political change.'"

In response, Kim Eun-hye, the People Power Party candidate for governor of Gyeonggi Province, sharply criticized, saying, "'The fugitive' and 'Lee Jae-myung fan' have only one way to take unlimited responsibility: resignation."

On the 7th, Hwang Gyu-hwan, spokesperson for Kim Eun-hye's campaign, stated in a commentary, "This morning, former governor Lee Jae-myung justified his 'eat-and-run' behavior with the absurd sophistry of 'unlimited responsibility,' and as if waiting for this, candidate Kim Dong-yeon echoed with 'I agree,'" criticizing them.

He continued, "It is a perfect harmony between 'the fugitive' and 'Lee Jae-myung fan' who have turned a deaf ear to the anger of the residents watching," and rebutted, "What exactly is 'unlimited responsibility,' and what is the 'deep and profound deliberation'?"

He further pointed out, "It is an unprecedented irresponsibility to have produced numerous corruption cases involving close aides in Daejang-dong, Baekhyeon-dong, and local currency, and then leave without a care," adding, "When they said they would protect Gyeonggi Province while making disparaging remarks about Incheon, and now without a single apology, they are only taking the easy way out with shallow tricks."

Spokesperson Hwang also criticized, "Even if former governor Lee Jae-myung, who has consistently acted shamelessly and with tricks, is as expected, Kim Dong-yeon’s shielding of Lee Jae-myung as a candidate for governor of Gyeonggi Province deserves even more criticism."

He added, "How can Kim Dong-yeon, who talked about a 'new wave' and 'conviction,' fail to criticize the behavior of throwing Gyeonggi residents away like a used rag?" and condemned him as "a typical opportunistic bureaucrat who looks up rather than down and changes his stance chasing power."

Spokesperson Hwang concluded, "It has become clear today that candidate Kim Dong-yeon can abandon and leave Gyeonggi Province anytime according to his needs and interests," and commented, "If these two want to take 'unlimited responsibility' before the residents, there is only one way: resignation."

Meanwhile, former governor Lee Jae-myung said regarding his strategic nomination in Incheon Gyeyang-eul, "I deeply feel that the Democratic Party’s situation and the difficulties of the local elections are also my responsibility following the presidential election defeat, and overcoming this is entirely my responsibility," and pledged, "I will take unlimited responsibility."

Earlier, the Democratic Party’s emergency committee strategically nominated former governor Lee Jae-myung for the by-election in Incheon Gyeyang-eul, which was one of the seven by-elections held alongside the June 1 local elections, in the constituency previously held by Song Young-gil, the Seoul mayoral candidate.
