[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Domestic airlines are stepping up efforts to attract consumers in line with the lifting of social distancing measures. They are offering discounts and mileage refunds to meet the growing demand for overseas travel.

According to the aviation industry on the 7th, Korean Air is offering a 200-mile refund when purchasing and completing boarding of a ticket using Cash and Miles with a deduction of 1,500 miles or more via its website or mobile app until the end of this month. If using Korean Air’s card easy payment, the benefit increases to 400 miles.

Cash and Miles is a mileage hybrid payment service introduced by Korean Air in January last year as part of the SkyPass system reform. When purchasing a ticket, customers can pay up to 20% of the fare with mileage as they wish. It is especially convenient because it is not limited by the number of seats sold or departure dates, and can be used from as little as 500 miles, allowing use with a small amount of mileage.

Asiana Airlines will also hold a price discount and in-flight Wi-Fi voucher giveaway event for passengers on European routes starting from the 9th. This applies to economy class passengers departing from Incheon on the ▲Frankfurt ▲London ▲Rome ▲Paris routes. A 5% price discount will be offered, and the first 150 passengers will receive an unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi voucher as a gift.

Low-cost carriers (LCCs) are doing the same. Jeju Air is running a ticket promotion for Oceania routes in line with the increased flights on the Incheon~Guam route. Tickets available for travel from June 1 to August 31 start at 282,600 KRW for the one-way total fare on the Incheon~Guam route. For the Incheon~Saipan route, prices start at 247,000 KRW. The promotion runs until the 11th.

Jin Air is also participating. To commemorate the resumption of the Busan~Da Nang and Busan~Bangkok routes, a dedicated discount promotion for international flights departing from Busan is being held until the 31st. This promotion offers up to a 50,000 KRW discount when booking flights departing from Busan to Guam, Da Nang, and Bangkok between July 1 and July 30. To use the discount, customers must first obtain a dedicated coupon via the website or other channels, then select the coupon during ticket payment and pay via KakaoPay. Discount coupons are available in denominations of 50,000 KRW and 20,000 KRW.

Additionally, to celebrate the resumption of international flights in May, T’way Air has been running a promotion since last month until the 29th. Promotional fares, including fuel surcharges and airport taxes, start from ▲Incheon~Fukuoka 187,500 KRW ▲Incheon~Osaka 227,500 KRW ▲Incheon~Tokyo (Narita) 203,300 KRW ▲Incheon~Bangkok 295,930 KRW ▲Incheon~Ho Chi Minh 404,100 KRW. The travel period is until the 31st.
