[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Masan Marine New City in Changwon, Gyeongnam, will be opened to the public on the 13th.
The Changwon City government has completed the construction of the 3.2 km coastal promenade surrounding Masan Marine New City, and with the timing of the promenade's completion, the canola flowers that were sown are about to bloom soon, so it announced that it will temporarily open the area to citizens shortly.
Recently, the lower development phase of the Marine New City has entered its final stage, and to meet the rising expectations of citizens regarding location facilities and economic ripple effects of the upper development, citizens will be 'invited' to visit.
The city plans to open part of the facilities along with the flower fields to the actual users, the citizens, to resolve questions about the project and to increase empathy and interest in the project, thereby gathering various opinions.
The city explained that the Marine New City, which is as large as 90 soccer fields, is being developed with 32% of the area allocated for private development and 68% for public development, and that the lower development phase has now exceeded 85% completion.
The Marine New City is expected to become the region's first marine landmark with facilities such as a modern art museum, Changwon-type Digital Valley, provincial (national) garden, as well as hotels, residential lodging, and cultural tourism complex facilities to establish a stay-type tourism system within the Masan area.
Through the Marine New City, economic effects are expected including a production inducement effect of 2.6 trillion KRW, a value-added inducement effect of 1 trillion KRW, and employment inducement effect of 12,804 jobs.
Before the creation of Masan Marine New City, Changwon City is developing 110,000㎡ of idle land into 80,000㎡ of canola flower fields and 30,000㎡ of green barley fields.
Lee Jong-geun, Director of the Marine, Port and Fisheries Bureau, said, “We have prepared to open the flower hill and the waterfront promenade for a short time so that the citizens who have waited 20 years can take a look around the Marine New City.”
