[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] Jin Kyung-ho, chairman of the Korea Parcel Delivery Workers' Union (Parcel Delivery Union) under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, appeared at the police station for investigation related to the occupation of CJ Logistics headquarters. Chairman Jin demanded CJ Logistics and the Agency Association to implement the joint agreement.
At around 9:44 a.m. on the 6th, Chairman Jin appeared at the Namdaemun Police Station in Seoul. Earlier in February, CJ Logistics had filed a complaint against Chairman Jin for charges including trespassing on a jointly owned building.
Chairman Jin acknowledged the charges but explained that the situation was unavoidable. In front of Namdaemun Police Station that day, he said, "(I) admit to the charges such as trespassing," but added, "We conducted a strike from December last year with the intention of negotiating according to a social agreement, but since they did not even show their faces, we had no choice but to enter the headquarters."
Furthermore, he urged CJ Logistics and the Agency Federation to fulfill the agreement. Chairman Jin said, "More than 300 union members are unable to use the standard contract itself, and about 130 members are facing contract termination," adding, "The Parcel Delivery Union is trying to normalize the service, so we ask CJ Logistics and the Agency Federation to also make efforts to ensure the joint agreement is implemented." The Parcel Delivery Union had previously demanded the company implement the joint agreement, which includes provisions that standard contracts cannot be drafted excluding the supplementary agreement and that workers cannot be forced to give up their three labor rights.
Earlier, the Parcel Delivery Union occupied the CJ Logistics headquarters building unexpectedly on February 10 to urge the implementation of the social agreement. Subsequently, on February 28, they lifted the occupation protest and agreed to complete the supplementary agreement to the standard contract by June 30. During the strike, the Parcel Delivery Union caused incidents including the occupation of the headquarters and physical clashes.
