[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in accepted the resignation of Prosecutor General Kim Oh-soo on the 6th. It has been about two weeks since Kim submitted his resignation for the second time on the 22nd of last month. However, the resignations of other prosecution executives were rejected.
Park Kyung-mi, the Blue House spokesperson, explained, "President Moon initially rejected the Prosecutor General's resignation once, but since he expressed his intention to take responsibility again and it has become difficult to delay any further, the resignation is accepted."
Spokesperson Park added, "However, resignations from prosecution executives other than the Prosecutor General are rejected due to concerns about public harm caused by gaps in prosecution affairs. We ask that they fulfill their duties thoroughly, centered on the Deputy Prosecutor General."
Prosecutor General Kim had submitted his resignation on the 17th of last month in protest against the 'Geomsu Wanbak (Complete Removal of Prosecution's Investigation Rights) Law,' but President Moon initially rejected it. However, after the ruling and opposition parties agreed on the Geomsu Wanbak Law, he submitted his resignation again on the 22nd of last month.
The Geomsu Wanbak Law was passed in the National Assembly plenary session on the 3rd, and on the same day, President Moon presided over his last Cabinet meeting of his term in the afternoon and promulgated the Geomsu Wanbak bill.
