Awarding the Damyang County Residents' Prize and Honorary Citizen Certificates
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 5th that the ‘43rd Damyang Residents' Day’ event, organized to promote harmony among residents, was successfully held at Chuseong Stadium on the 3rd.
This event was held for the first time in three years since 2019 and included the reading of the Damyang Millennium Declaration, an awards ceremony for the recipients of the ‘Damyang Residents' Award’ and the ‘Honorary Resident Certificate of Damyang-gun’ who contributed to the development of the county administration, followed by the singing of the residents' song and the Damyang Arirang chorus.
This year, the grand prize of the Damyang Residents' Award was awarded to Lee Sang-nam, president of the Wolsan-myeon Euddeum Strawberry Association (regional development category), the encouragement awards went to Jeong Byeong-yeon, director of the Damyang Cultural Foundation (education and culture category), and Kim Geum-ju, a master craftsman (education and culture category), and the special award was given to Cho Hyun-jong, former director of the National Gwangju Museum.
The Honorary Resident Certificates were awarded to Lee Chung-mi, CEO of Jinjja Nori Architects, and Kim Yang-rok, CEO of Isan Steel Co., Ltd.
The subsequent congratulatory performances featured singer Nam Jin, Seo Ji-o, Kings Band, and the trot girl group Bravo, delivering an exciting stage.
County Governor Choi Hyung-sik said in his commemorative speech, “I thank all the residents for their great interest and participation despite this being the first event in a long time,” and added, “I hope this will be a comfort to the residents who have suffered difficulties for a long time due to COVID-19.”
He continued, “The sustainable ecological city policy that Damyang has pursued since the 3rd term of the elected government has become the best innovative policy model in areas such as housing, education, agriculture, culture and arts, tourism, population inflow, and investment attraction,” and stated, “I hope the residents will gather their wisdom so that the 8th term of the elected government can continue this and design a future millennium Damyang as a sustainable ecological city with a humanistic spirit.”
